Buzz Joy Coffee Roasting is made up of Barb and Steve Stoneking and Lee Phillips Jr. All of us were born, raised and are living in the Tri-Cities.
What
Buzz Joy Coffee Roasting is exactly what it sounds like. We take green coffee and turn it into varying shades of brown roasted heaven. We use the highest grade of coffees, Specialty Grade, available and custom roast them according to your tastes.

We operate our roastery in Richland, Wa.
When
I Started a little over four years ago roasting coffee for myself and became impassioned about Specialty Coffee. Within days coffee roasting became and all-consuming hobby. I then spent most of my free time researching and reading about coffee roasting.
How
How else, I put everything I own on the line to get what I needed to roast coffee better than anyone else in the area.
Why
For the first couple of years I mostly roasted for my immediate family and myself. The only problem was I was roasting more coffee than my family could drink, so I started giving it away to friends and neighbors and co-workers. A couple years and a few thousand dollars later the requests for fresh roasted coffee became too many. My day job dried up and I started to investigate whether you could support a family roasting coffee and what the local competition was like. Needless to say, I came to the conclusion you could support a family and that the Tri-Cities needed a roaster dedicated to the Specialty Coffee.
Our main philosophy of coffee is simple; Do everything to maintain
the quality and freshness of the coffee.
This means:
- We only buy the highest quality coffee possible.
- We only roast coffee when it is ordered. Roasted coffee goes stale after about 2 weeks.
- We only sell whole bean coffee. Ground coffee goes stale in about 2-8 hours!
- Use the best air-tight packaging and the smallest size needed. This means using PVC bags with one-way degassing valves and more importantly, educating our customers on how much they use in a 2-3 week period.
These fundamentals will ensure your coffee is at the peak of quality and freshness, and your coffee experience will be something you look forward to with joy! For me, my greatest joy is being your custom coffee roaster because nothing is more fun than standing in front of my roaster, roasting coffee.
